Smart Pool exists because Mark got tired of fighting with his own pool app. As a pool owner with a Pentair IntelliCenter system, he found the experience slow, unintuitive, and miles behind what modern software should feel like. So he did what Silicon Valley engineers do — he built something better.
The moment the first version was running, the Pentair app was gone for good. Controlling the pool became genuinely easy: one tap to set a scene, voice commands through Alexa, live status at a glance. Mark brings over 25 years of enterprise and consumer software experience to that mission. As Division CTO at Intuit QuickBooks he led engineering at scale for millions of small businesses. As CTO at Demandforce — one of the fastest-growing SaaS platforms in healthcare, later acquired by Intuit — he built products that changed how professionals run their practices. His research at the Georgia Institute of Technology, focused on distributed systems and early internet protocols, helped shape the architecture of the modern web.
